Supporting world class public education at the
Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science & Engineering

about us

The Foundation for Excellence in Education was established to raise funds to enhance the educational experiences of the students, teachers and staff of Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering. The funds raised will be used to improve educational programs, to purchase equipment for the students, staff and faculty of Columbia Secondary School. The organization seeks funds through grants, donations and other methods.

In pursuit of our goals, we anticipate the following fund raising activities:

  1. Holding an annual auction of donated material goods, services, trips and other activities. This auction will be open to the friends, families, staff and invited guests of the Columbia Secondary School.
  2. A letter-writing campaign asking for money once a year. We intend to extend this campaign both within the Columbia Secondary School and also into the community.
  3. Solicitation through presentations both at the Columbia Secondary School and at offsite locations.
  4. Grant proposal writing asking for funds available through corporations interested in promoting math, engineering and science education.
  5. A letter writing campaign directed toward Columbia University Alumni especially those alumni interested in promoting education in math, science and engineering.

It will be the policy of Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc. for a fund-raising event to publicize, in advance of the event, the fair market value of the benefit received in such a way that our contributors can clearly determine what portion is deductible, and what portion is not. Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc. will not participate in any fund-raising program where there is any direct benefit to the individual who raises the funds. We will adopt no system where an individual receives aid based on the amounts raised specifically for them.

The Foundation for Excellence in Education, Inc. filed for 501(c)3 non-profit status with the IRS in early 2008 and fully expects all donations made in the 2008-2009 tax year to be tax deductible for donors.
